Oracle of the Beloved

If you feel pure, divine love in a relationship with another
that person becomes your beloved.

They must be your beloved
because when you look into those luminescent eyes
you see yourself looking back.

“There I am,” you say. “I look so beautiful and so happy;
so limitless and free,
so eternally bright!”

When your beloved leaves
your heart sickens and aches;
you feel that only death can save you.

“How can I live without divine love?”

From the bottomless well of grief
from which you drink
floats the answer.

“Had no one ever told you?
You might need a mirror to see yourself.
You needn’t one to be yourself.
And who you are
is pure, divine love.”

You turn from the answer and you drink more from the well of grief
…and more, and more…
until the answer finds its way back around
and turns you from the drink and you hear
in the trees
and in the birdsong
and in the breeze…

“The beloved who left you
was one of an infinite number of beloveds.”

And you know the truth.
Everywhere you look
Is your beautiful, happy,
limitless and free, eternally-bright
Self…

Smiling back at you.
